San Francisco – Muni Light Rail Transit System

Light Rail Now Project Team
Originally Published November 2002 • Rev. June 2005

Table data for Muni's historic streetcar system (F-Line) have been corrected. There are no subway stops on the historic F-Line. All told, there are more than 30 surface station-stops.

San Francisco Municipal Railway – Muni – operates one of the most extensive of America's remaining, older, original urban electric railway systems, now upgraded to light rail transit (LRT) standards. in addition to its modern LRT system, Muni also provides an historic streetcar operation, currently on the F-Line.

Muni also operates an extensive fleet of motor buses, electric trolleybuses, and, of course, the city's venerable, "signature" historic cable-car system.
